Creating a Bicycle Friendly LA County Summit

Join elected officials and staff from the 88 cities in LA County for this exciting opportunity!    

Event Overview:

Created especially for elected leaders, city managers and staff from the 88 cities that make up LA County, the summit will provide the tools and inspiration to empower city leaders to create bicycle-friendly communities. Co-organized by the LA County Department of Public Health's RENEW LA County Initiative and the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and hosted by the City of Long Beach,  this summit will highlight LA County cities that are taking the initiative to provide a vision of a bike-able future by implementing supportive infrastructure, encouragement, enforcement and education programs.

The conference is designed to foster productive interaction among the participants in order to further the understanding of why and how to create bicycle-friendly communities. Participants in this one-day conference will identify solutions to create bike-able communities. The conference will be structured around the five E’s of Bike Friendliness identified by the League of American Bicyclists. To review the schedule and learn more about the program please click here.

We encourage participation from all city departments dealing with planning, traffic and roadway engineering, public works, parks and recreation, etc. This event will include bike tours of downtown Long Beach so please bring your bicycle if you have one. Free bike valet services will be provides by the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and a limited amount of free loaner bicycles will be provided. We encourage all attendees to use transit to attend this event. Parking is available at the Long Beach Convention Center and costs $10. 

Guiding Principles:

• Public Health: Address the obesity epidemic by creating policy that leads to changes in the built environment
• Advancement: Identify barriers, promote benefits and provide tools to address both.
• Sustainability: Create an ongoing effort to support a bicycle-friendly LA County.

Event Format: A mix of Speakers, Panels, Workshops, Demonstrations and bike tours of Long Beach.
