For the summer of 2015, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition is offering a series of FREE bicycle safety classes. Funding for this program is provided by Metro through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
There are three different classes being offered:
- "Street Cycling Skills" (TS101-A) - Session A
- "Street Cycling Skills" (TS101-B) - Session B
- "Basic Bicycling Skills"
All classes are taught by trained League Cycling Instructors (LCIs). These classes are for adults and youth who are at least 14 years old. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or an adult guardian. Participants receive a free bicycle helmet and bike lights.
Classes are being offered in:
- Culver City
- Downtown Los Angeles (Metro)
- East Los Angeles
- North Hills (San Fernando Valley)
- North Long Beach
- Santa Monica

When: Sunday, August 2; Meet at 9:30 a.m, Ride at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Del Valle Park - 5939 Henrilee St. (at Woodruff) Lakewood, CA 90713, by the airplane (map)
Bring out your whole family for this ride around the Long Beach and Lakewood area! For the fourth summer in a row, LACBC Board Member and Lakewood resident Steve Boyd leads this mellow ride. We'll ride along the San Gabriel Bike Path and head south to PCH and back. Children on bikes and in trailers are welcome!
Ride Length: not more than 18 miles (riders will have the option of turning around for a 6-mile ride or riding for a longer 18-mile ride)
Ride Duration: 2 to 2.5 hours, including stops for rest when needed
Difficulty: easy, great for the whole family
What to Bring: helmets for children under 18, water, snacks

Celebrate with us as we honor community members doing good bike work while raising much needed funds for LA’s largest, full service bike advocacy nonprofit--the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition!
This year's honorees are:
- Mayor Richard Riordan — Passionate Pedal Award
- Tafarai Bayne — The Alex Baum Award for Achievement in Advocacy
- Councilmembers Mitch Englander & Joe Buscaino — The Innovator Award
