More Bike Lanes Coming to DTLA This Month
February will bring additional bike lane mileage to the growing Downtown LA bike network. New bike lanes will be installed on Main Street from 9th Street to 16th/Venice Blvd linking to the buffered green lane on Spring Street and a future bike lane on Main Street headed north from 9th to Cesar Chavez. LADOT crews are scheduled to being work the weekend of February 11th and will wrap up the weekend of the 18th. If you live or work in DTLA you may see work crews out the week before grinding off existing lane markings in preparation for installation.
Also this month, LADOT crews will be testing various green paint & cement coloring materials on three blocks of Spring Street. On Sunday February 12th crews will be testing a shot-blasting treatment that scars the concrete surface and is supposed to make it easier to bond paint or thermoplastic. They will also test a couple of different concrete stains, paints and thermoplastics, both for the asphalt and concrete surfaces. The three blocks these treatments will be tested are Aliso to Temple; 5th to 6th; and 6th to 7th. If you live or work in DTLA access to driveways/garages on the westside of Spring St. for those three blocks will be restricted between 1AM-4PM on Sunday, Febraury 12th. Plan ahead - consider moving your car to another street or lot in advance if you know you will need to use your car on this day.
And remember to be kind to the crews who are working hard to test out the best materials to make sure the buffered bike lane looks great! Avoid the coned-off areas so you don't run over fresh paint. More details here and here.
