Allow Us to Reintroduce Ourselves

As you may have already heard, we at the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition announced our new name, BikeLA, at our inaugural Bike Fest on November 5. Since that announcement, the BikeLA team has been working to transition to the new name across social media platforms, and we’re excited to announce that the transition is OVER. As of December 15, 2022, we will be exclusively known as BikeLA. Since the mid-’90s, BikeLA has worked to advocate for better infrastructure and policies that support the lives of bicyclists across LA County, no matter the zip code. Making LA a more bikeable region for everyone will continue to be our mission until all Angelenos can conveniently bike from one part of the county to another safely.

BikeLA’s staff and Board of Directors felt “Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC)” sounded too bureaucratic and did not capture the essence of the organization and the mission to support more Angelenos to bike LA. It had become clear that a name change was needed that made it easier for bike-minded people to find, understand and support our advocacy work. BikeLA is both more accessible and a call to action. Moreover, the name is more consistent with our sister organizations across the United States, including Bike East Bay and Bike New York. We thank everyone for supporting LACBC for the past quarter century and for remaining committed to BikeLA for a Better LA!

We BikeLA for many of the same reasons you do – to spend quality time outdoors, to improve our overall health, to reduce our carbon footprint, and especially to connect with the communities we ride through. When we BikeLA there is no way to ignore the quality of the street, or the quality of the air we breathe. When we BikeLA there is no doubt whether or not our lives are supported by the built environment or put in danger because of it. BikeLA’s aim has always been to transform transportation culture and infrastructure from the burden we all suffer to a benefit we all share by advocating for a region that is safe, equitable, and joyous to bicycle. We are just as committed to that effort and invigorated by this new branding and focus.

We thank everyone for supporting LACBC for the past quarter century and for remaining committed to BikeLA for a Better LA!
