Los Angeles Street’s New Protected Bike Lane

The newest piece of cycling infrastructure will have its formal ribbon cutting this afternoon with Councilmember Jose Huizar and LADOT on hand.

Here’s a sneak peak as these protected lanes on Los Angeles Street will connect Union Station across the 101 Freeway to 1st Street:

Looking north on Los Angeles Street across from 1st Street.

Dozens of bollards are used to separate traffic.

At Temple St., cyclists have their own signal to directing their crossing.

Another first are these traffic islands where people can board buses.

There are traffic sensors for cyclists right before each intersection.

Crossing the 101 Freeway, green paint designates where drivers can merge onto the onramp.
