Support Proposed Protected Bike Lanes on Lankershim Blvd!

LACBC has been working on getting bike lanes on Lankershim Blvd., a major commercial corridor, transit hub, and cultural center of NoHo Arts District, and our hard work has paid off.

For years LACBC has been actively promoting and engaging the public about the benefits of installing bike lanes on Lankershim Blvd. Since 2012 we have led two bike rides that drew over 100 people each, conducted over a dozen tabling events at the North Hollywood station and Farmer’s Market, hosted events on Lankershim and distributed bike lights to commuters who were not visible at night through our Operation Firefly program.

The community’s support has been overwhelming, reflecting a heightened interest in biking coupled with frustration over lack of facilities. Through our outreach we have collected signatures of over 2,000 local stakeholders and over 30 businesses who support installing bike lanes on Lankershim.

The City of Los Angeles Great Streets Initiative, in partnership with Councilmember Paul Krekorian, has developed a vision for the future of Lankershim Blvd. from the North Hollywood Red Line station (Chandler Blvd) to Victory Blvd. The City is planning to resurface the entire stretch in Summer of 2017 after a multi-year DWP project completes along the corridor.

This is a great opportunity for community members to provide input to connect gaps in the current bike lane network. For the first time since we started the Ride Lankershim campaign in 2012, the City has a budget and political support to realize these long-awaited improvements happen.

The City is planning changes in 2017 and 2018 to Lankershim Blvd between Magnolia Blvd and Vanowen Street that include:

  1. Reducing travel lanes to improve safety

  2. Improving bike and pedestrian connections

  3. Calmer traffic for a safer drive, walk and ride

  4. Trees, landscaping and green infrastructure

It’s important that you provide input and feedback so we can address your concerns and incorporate your ideas. There are four upcoming opportunities to learn more about the project and give feedback, but we’re asking people to join us at the April 12th meeting:
