9 Reasons Why You Should Join Us for the 3rd Annual Firefly Ball

The 3rd Annual Firefly Ball is in one week, and the Firefly Ball Committee and LACBC Board and Staff are excited for what is to come! We’ve compiled a list of the best reasons, in no particular order, why you should join us. Read on, and RSVP by Monday, October 24th (new deadline!), at: la-bike.org/fireflyball.

Party in a 1920s bank vault. The Firefly Ball takes place at The Reserve, a basement with a bank vault. Located in a 12-story Beaux Arts-style building originally constructed in 1924 and located right next to LACBC headquarters, the ground floor has housed different banks in the past. The basement, complete with a bank vault, now functions as a lounge known as The Reserve. Come explore it with us!

Support a great cause. This annual fundraiser supports the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and our work in all 88 cities and municipalities in L.A. County to make them healthy, safe, and fun places to ride a bike.

Mingle with your favorite bike buddies. This year’s Firefly Ball is a champagne affair with appetizers, a silent auction, and a short program, meaning you’ll be able to spend more time catching up with some of your favorite bike people.

Win some great silent auction prizes. From bike gear to sports memorabilia to jewelry to vacation packages, bid on some collectible items while supporting LACBC’s work.

Honor the Ovarian Psycos Cycle Brigade with the Alex Baum Excellence in Advocacy Award. The Ovarian Psycos have blazed a path in creating brave spaces for women, queer people, and people of color who bike throughout the county. Since 2012, OPC has annually hosted Clitoral Mass LA, a ride for women-identified and gender-nonconforming people that includes live performances and informational sessions. Learn more about them here and recognize OPC’s advocacy at the Firefly Ball!

Honor the Walt Disney Company with the Passionate Pedal Award. Disney, through its corporate citizenship division, offers employee incentives for biking, walking and public transportation with the goal of providing transportation options that are not only beneficial to all of its employees but also environmentally friendly. Read more about Disney’s work here and toast to Disney on Thursday night!

Honor Culver City Councilmember Meghan Sahli-Wells with the Innovator Award. Councilmember Sahli-Wells has championed making Culver City a more bikeable and livable place. Notably, she co-founded the Culver City Bicycle Coalition (now called Bike Culver City), one of the first local chapters of LACBC, and Transition Culver City, part of the international Transition Network. Read more about her work here and celebrate the council member’s innovation!

You never know what will happen. Maybe an actor will crash the stage (like Neal McDonough did when Tom Gilmore was presenting their friend Andy Leeka with an award in 2014). Maybe a future mayor will present an award to a past mayor (like last year when Matlock Grossman presented an award to Richard Riordan). The Firefly Ball is full of surprises. Don’t miss out!

It’s one of the fanciest events with bike valet. The Firefly Ball may have the fanciest dressed bicyclists you’ll see all year, and they’ll be arriving at our complimentary bike valet out front. Ride your bike on over (or walk or take the train or drive) to the Firefly Ball.

The 3rd Annual Firefly Ball is on Thursday, October 27th, beginning at 6 p.m. at The Reserve. RSVP by Monday, October 24th (new deadline), at: la-bike.org/fireflyball.
